Trial lawyer and commercial litigator Rob Owens has become a leading presence in California state and federal courts after more than 47 years of practice. His representation of corporations, businesses and individuals includes disputes involving real estate, shareholder claims, fraud, fiduciary obligations, trusts, estates and probate. Known for his practical resolutions and old-school collegiality throughout the litigation process, Rob uses his trial strength to position clients for favorable outcomes, whether through mediation, a negotiated settlement, a bench trial or jury trial.
Rob is often brought into protracted disputes to try cases where earlier attempts at resolution have failed. His skill and efficiency in narrowing the argument to the relevant essentials have resulted in numerous successful bench and jury verdicts.
Equally effective at making an impact on early-stage litigation, Rob presents persuasive arguments that frequently achieve summary judgment or dismissal of the conflict.
As an entrepreneur himself, Rob understands the stress that litigation can mean for institutional clients and business owners. Rob founded his own firm, with partner Linda Gach Ray, after beginning his practice and becoming a young partner at Alschuler, Grossman & Pines.
Since 1987, Rob and Linda have focused their eponymous firm on serving Southern California’s business community with personalized, all-in representation. Rob’s clients have included local and out-of-state financial institutions, entertainment studios, retailers, consumer companies and professional athletes.
In another joint venture, Rob and Linda were the sole owners and operators of a minor league baseball team, the Helena Brewers/Provo Angels in the Pioneer League, for eight years. They also held a minority interest in the Lancaster JetHawks in the California League.
In addition to managing legal issues, Rob was involved in the daily operations of the ball clubs. He has experience with all the rules, regulations, and processes of Minor League Baseball and relationships with Major League Baseball. His related experience in this area includes franchise concerns, new stadium designs and financing, naming rights and sponsorships, and other issues that arise for sports teams.
Rob is a Trojan, having earned his B.A., MBA and J.D. from the University of Southern California. He has spent decades supporting and leading youth sports and education programs, including serving on the board of managers of the Palisades-Malibu YMCA. He has also supported such causes as Stop Cancer and the Special Olympics. Rob has taken on several pro bono matters during his career and is contributing advice and counsel on post-fire recovery in his Pacific Palisade community.
